I have really oily skin and it’s the bane of my life. Last year my dad received lots of John Lewis vouchers so I got to buy amazing skin care products from the likes of Murad, Clinique and Guerlain, without taking a penny from my purse. As much as I’d love to continue buying them, I simply cannot afford. So, I’ve been on the hunt for a while, watching YouTubers and doing research to find great affordable skin care. I came across Mario Badescu from YouTuber, Holly Boon and found some amazing products for oily skin which actually work! Read on to find the best Mario Badescu products for oily skin.
Please note: I bought all of these products from Beauty Bay so I’m not entirely sure if they’re being sold at the cheapest price or not.

The first thing I knew I needed to buy was the Spritz.Mist.Glow Set at £16.00. I have run out of setting spray and although I was looking at Mac Fix+, I wanted to buy from a brand that was skincare focused rather than makeup focused. This way I could use the spray knowing it was going to be more inclined to protect the condition and appearance of my skin. (That’s not saying makeup brand’s setting sprays are harmful to your skin – it’s just what I prefer.)
My favourite thing about these sprays aside from the amazing scents of lavender, cucumber and rose water and the fact they’re CRUELTY-FREE, is that they can be used before moisturising, after makeup or throughout the day. The spray is versatile enough that it can be a staple in my “get ready” routine, whether that involves using makeup or not.
I heard so many people raving about this product so I’ve jumped on the bandwagon. Working in marketing I’m not alien to the way some brands may falsely promote their products yet, this Drying Lotion from Mario Badescu is the real deal. (Just like all of the other products I’ve tried.)
It’s great for effectively treating my spots, reducing the redness and size of them overnight. It also helps to soothe the surrounding areas and help prevent more spots developing. I thought it may transfer onto my pillows whilst I was sleeping but the lotion dries pretty quick so that’s not a problem. It actually states to wash the area where you applied the product in the morning, however, me being me, I often forgot as the product sort of melted into my skin and I didn’t feel the need to. (I’m not promoting this, just my honest feedback on how I use it.)

The hardest problem with my skin is the fact it’s immensely oily. Although I am grateful for it in some ways, it means my hair goes greasy really easily, my makeup “slips” off my face and I’m blaming it for the fact I get spots within a day or 2 of wearing makeup. I used to apply the Murad Oil-Control Mattifier which costs £35.00 for 50ml. It had SPF in it which was a bonus but I wasn’t keen on spending that much on an “everyday moisturiser”.
Instead, I’ve bought the control moisturizer from Mario Badescu which is much cheaper at £18.50 per 59ml. I’m not sure if it’s going to be my go-to moisturiser every day, I want to use the product for a little longer to see how long it lasts to determine whether it’s affordable.
However, in relation to if it works or not, yes, it really does work. I don’t get anywhere near as oily and find that even when I do, it’s only very slightly. My makeup lasts a lot longer without transferring down my face or onto my clothes. (My dad will be happy to know this – yes, he does my washing.)
4. GWP Sleep (Freebie)
Everyone loves a freebie, right? Freebies from the brands you love are great. But, when the product is related to your favourite thing ever, mine sleeping, it makes the freebie insane. So what do you get?
The freebie consists of a 29ml lavender facial spray and 14g seaweed night cream. The spray is in actual fact a smaller version of “the purple one” in the Spray.Mist.Glow set. It’s an aloe, chamomile and lavender scent, which I used to think all were kind-of gross and “old people smelling”. I was wrong. Since drinking chamomile tea and using a lavender oil roller ball during my panic attacks, I’ve grown to love the smell and found that it really does calm me down and help me to sleep. (I know using an oil rollerball isn’t the best product to use when I have oily skin and hence although it’s great, I want to look at alternatives.)
The seaweed night cream also smells lovely. It smells of a beauty chemical brand, not of seaweed. To me, if it smelt of seaweed it’d be pretty gross as I hate the smell of salty fish. It feels kind of spongy to touch and like a souffle or mousse. Either way, it’s great. The cream is really nourishing and soothing when applied to my “stress areas”. These being my temples, across my forehead, around my eyes and lower jaw/neck.
Would I buy this freebie?
Yes. I have already bought the spray in the bigger, set version and it’s amazing – love it! I also think the seaweed night cream would be a great addition to my skincare routine. My current night cream is from Aldi and although it’s soothing on my skin, it doesn’t help my spots the way this Mario Badescu night cream does.
